Green Trakr is a simple and intuitive driving carbon footprint tracker. The app tracks your movement while driving and calculates the mass of CO2 that was let into the atmosphere. Green Trakr was created for the purpose of lowering an individuals driving carbon emissions instead of offsetting their emissions. The app is completely free with no in-app purchases.
Tracking:
Green Trakr has two methods of tracking the users movement. The first method is a manual tracker that the user can access in the tracker tab. The user must start and stop the tracker to record a drive, and if desired, the user can change the cars mpg and number of people in the car to get a more accurate emission from the drive. The second method is an automatic tracker that detects when the user is driving and automatically logs the drive. The automatic tracker is slightly less accurate than the manual tracker. The user will receive a notification when a new drive is logged automatically. It is recommended that location services are enabled when in automatic tracking mode. If the user has enabled automatic tracking they can still track a drive with the manual tracker for improved accuracy.
Editing or Logging a Past Drive:
Once a drive is logged the user can always go back and edit the drives data. This can be accessed in the drives tab along with logging a previous drive. To log a previous drive the user must simply tap on the plus button in the top right corner in the drives tab and then enter a drive distance and date. This is a great way for a user to get started with the app.
Displaying Progress:
In the home tab there is an interactive graph that gives the user information about their emissions and progress over time. The user can configure the graph to display different date ranges and resolutions (day-by-day, weekly, monthly, and yearly). The user can even choose a custom date range if they wish. There is also a banner at the top of the home page that displays the percent change of the users emissions for that day, week, or month. The banner is a great way for the user to identify if they are lowering their emissions or not.
Customization:
There are a variety of settings that can be accessed by clicking the gear button in top right corner of the home tab. The settings include the default mpg that should be used for the users car, the users preferred tracking style, and whether the user would like distances to be displayed as kilometers or miles.
Dark Mode:
This app works seamlessly with dark mode enabled or disabled.
Notifications:
If the user enables notifications, they will be sent when the user logs a drive automatically and when there are new updates or news. We understand that nobody wants to be spammed with notifications.
Location Privacy:
Green Trakr never stores the users location on any of its databases. The app uses the users location to calculate distance driven by the user, and then stores the distance.
